2010 VOLUNTEER HOST COMMITTEE GUIDELINES

The role of the Host Committee is to reinforce the joy of sobriety at the 2010 International Convention. This is accomplished by extending the hand of A.A. to all International Convention guests - A.A.s and non-A.A.s. The role of the General Service Office is to set up the International Convention so that the mechanics of the International Convention do not interfere with the Host Committee’s joyful welcome and ongoing friendly interaction with International Convention guests.

The role of the Host Committee Core chairpersons is to act as an agent of the General Service Office in planning a Host Committee structure which will be of maximum service to the host volunteers and hence to convention attendees. If the host volunteers are comfortable and have simple, well-defined guidelines, they will communicate their comfort and confidence to their guests. The Host Committee’s primary responsibility is to help guests participate in the A.A. events from Thursday evening to Sunday morning. This includes being able to assist with housing and transportation questions or general travel emergencies such as “Where can I eat cheaply?” or “Where is the nearest washroom?” The host volunteers past experience in working together to open the doors of an A.A. meeting will serve as the doors are opened for A.A. meetings at the convention center, the stadium and other venues. The Host Committee will communicate by example the joy of sobriety to all who attend A.A.’s 75th birthday celebration in 2010 in San Antonio.
